Sacred Pythons..!
A long time ago, some of Naayire people went for hunting. They found nothing. When night came, they were very far from home. So they decided to sleep in the forest.
The hunters came to a place with big trees. They decided to rest on the grass. Then they went to sleep. All of them were tired. They slept Snoring and did not hear anything. They did not hear that their enemies were coming near to them.
But on the man who was sleeping under a tree moved something and fell on his head. He waked up and cried for a big python was fell down on his head!
The Naayire hunters got up immediately and saw the enemies around them. The fight began and the enemies ran away.
The Naayire hunters came up to their chief and talk about the fight. The chief asked the hunter ′What made you wake up?′. He said, ′It was a python, it fell on my head, but it did not kill me′.
Then the chief said, ′From this day our people will never kill a python. That python saved our lives. Pythons will be sacred animals in our country′.
நீண்ட காலத்திற்கு முன்பு, நாயிரி மக்கள் சிலர் வேட்டையாடச் சென்றனர். அவர்களுக்கு ஒன்றும் கிடைக்கவில்லை. இரவு நேரம் வந்த போது, அவர்கள் வீட்டிலிருந்து மிக தொலைவில் இருந்தார்கள். எனவே அவர்கள் காட்டில் தூங்க முடிவு செய்தனர்.
வேட்டைக்காரர்கள் பெரிய மரங்கள் இருக்கும் இடத்திற்கு சென்றார்கள். அவர்கள் அனைவரும் புல் மீது ஓய்வெடுக்க முடிவு செய்தனர். பின்னர் அவர்கள் தூங்கச் சென்றனர். அவர்கள் அனைவரும் சோர்வாக இருந்தனர். அவர்கள் குறட்டையிட்டு கொண்டு தூங்கினார்கள், அதனால் அவர்களுக்கு எதுவும் கேட்கவில்லை. அவர்களுடைய எதிரிகள் அவர்களை நோக்கி வருவது கூட அவர்களுக்கு கேட்கவில்லை.
ஆனால் ஒரு மரத்தின் கீழ் தூங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்த மனிதன் மீது ஏதோ ஒன்று நகர்ந்து அவர் தலையில் விழுந்தது. அவர் தூக்கத்திலிருந்து எழுந்து அவருடைய தலையில் ஒரு பெரிய விஷமில்லாத ஒரு வகை மலைப்பாம்பு விழுந்து விட்டதாக அழுதார்.
நாயிரி வேட்டைக்காரர்கள் உடனே எழுந்து, அவர்களை சுற்றி எதிரிகள் இருப்பதை பார்த்தார்கள். சண்டை தொடங்கியது எதிரிகளும் அங்கிருந்து ஓடிவிட்டனர்.
நாயிரி வேட்டைக்காரர்கள் சண்டையைப் பற்றி கூறுவதற்கு தலைவரிடம் வந்தனர். தலைவர் வேட்டைகாரனிடம் 'எது உங்களை விழித்தெழ வைத்தது?" என்று கேட்டார். அவர் 'அது ஒரு விஷமில்லாத ஒரு வகை மலைப்பாம்பு, அது என் தலை மீது விழுந்தது, ஆனால் அது என்னை கொல்லவில்லை" என்று பதிலளித்தார்.
பின்னர், தலைவர் 'இன்றிலிருந்து நம் மக்கள் விஷமில்லாத ஒரு வகை மலைப்பாம்பை கொல்ல மாட்டார்கள். அவை நம்முடைய உயிர்களை காப்பாற்றியுள்ளது. இனிமேல் நம் நாட்டில் விஷமில்லாத ஒரு வகை மலைப்பாம்பு புனித விலங்காக இருக்கும்" என்று கூறினார்.
