Why Are The Seas Blue?
Because of the way light shines on water. When light shines on any surface, some rays are absorbed and some reflected. It is the reflected light that gives things their colors. When sunlight shines on water, the red light rays are absorbed the most. The least absorbed are the blue ones. So the blue light is reflected and the water appears blue. Sometimes, the absorption varies a little and some water bodies appear green, too!
Angling For Food?
The angler fish is one cunning hunter, Above its head it has a "lure 'which it waves, lo entice smaller fish. These smaller fish think that the waving lure is some tasty morsel. Instead, when they come within range, they themselves end up as food, as they are swallowed by the huge, gaping mouth of the angler - fish.
Heard Of Wet Birds?
Most water birds have a oily coating that helps the water slide off their backs without wetting their feathers. Cormorants and shags, two birds which ſeed on fish, do not have this oily coating on their wings and so, after a fishing expedition, they must sit on the rocks with their wings stretched out until the wind and the sun dry them off.
