ஒருமுறை அக்பரும் பீர்பாலும் படகில் ஆற்றின் நடுவே பயணம் செய்துகொண்டிருந்தனர். சிறுவனான இளவரசன் படகின் ஒரு புறம் விளையாடிக்கொண்டிருந்தான்.
அப்போது அக்பர் பீர்பாலிடம், " ஆண்டவனை சுற்றிலும் எத்தனையோ பேர் இருக்கிறார்கள். இருந்தாலும் ஆண்டவன் ஏன் பக்தனுக்காக அவதாரம் எடுக்கிறான? வேறு யாரையாவது அனுப்பி அவனுக்கு உதவ வேண்டியது தானே!.." என்று கேட்டார். இந்த கேள்வி பீர்பாலை சற்று யோசிக்க வைத்தது.
அந்த நேரம் படகில் விளையாடி கொண்டிருந்த இளவரசன் திடீரென்று ஆற்றுக்குள் தவறி விழுந்துவிட்டான். இதைப்பார்த்த அக்பர் தானே ஆற்றுக்குள் குதித்து மகனை காப்பாற்றினார். அதன் பிறகு அக்பர் கேட்ட கேள்விக்குப் பீர்பால் பதில் சொன்னார்.
"அரசே... தாங்கள் சற்று முன்பு கேட்ட கேள்விக்கு பதில் இப்போது நடந்த உங்கள் செய்கையிலே இருக்கிறது." என்றார். அக்பருக்கு புரியவில்லை. பீர்பாலை சற்று விளக்கி கூறுமாறு கேட்டுக் கண்டார். " இளவரசரைக் காப்பாற்ற நீங்களே ஆற்றில் குதித்து இருக்கிறீர்கள்... உடனே மகனை காப்பாற்ற வேண்டும் என்கிற அன்பு தானே... யாரிடமாவது உதவி கேட்டு அதனால் காப்பாற்றுவதில் தாமதம் ஏற்பட்டு விடக்கூடாது என்ற ஒரே காரணத்துக்காக தானே... நீங்கள் இப்போது ஆற்றுக்குள் குதித்து மகனை காப்பாற்றினீர்கள். அதுபோலதான் ஆண்டவனும தன் பக்தர்கள் சங்கடத்தில் இருக்கும் போது மற்றவர்கள் உதவியை நாடுவதில்லை. தானே அவதாரம் எடுத்து அன்பர்களின் சங்கடங்களை நீக்குகிறான்.", என்றார் பீர்பால்.
சந்தேகம் தீர்ந்து விளக்கம் பெற்ற அக்பர் பீர்பாலை பாராட்டினார்.
Story in English:
Once Akbar and Birbal were traveling in a boat in the middle of the river. The little prince was playing on one side of the boat.
Then Akbar asked Birbal, "There are so many people around the Lord. However, why does the Lord incarnate for the devotee? He has to send someone else to help him! .." This question made Birbal think a bit.
The prince, who was playing in the boat at the time, suddenly slipped into the river. Seeing this, Akbar himself jumped into the river and saved his son. Birbal then answered the question asked by Akbar.
"King ... the answer to the question you asked a while ago is in your act now." said. Akbar did not understand. He asked Birbal to explain a bit.
